Homework: Read CH 7 and complete 1 reading log.
Tuesday, February 24th
In your groups...
  1. Re-read each other's work in order to revise for evidence.
  2. Does the student integrate the quotes?
  3. Is it mostly evidence? Are there more than 2 lines of quotation?
  4. Are the parenthetical notations at the end of the evidence?
  5. Are they misplacing commas or periods? 
  6. Requirements: make 2 comments for EACH page that is regarding the evidence on the paper.

How to create page numbers:
1. Go to Insert
2. Page Numbers
3. Top
4. Use the appropriate format of last name and page number (see example above)


Monday, February 23rd
  1. Get into groups of 3
  2. Then, share your draft 1 with each other
  3. Each person is required to make at least 3 comments for each page. The three comment types are: 1 positive and 2 recommendations. The comments may include:
  • grammar
  • spelling
  • sentence types
  • comma placement
  • Does the evidence support/analyze the main argument? 
  • Is the analysis distracting to the argument?
  • Does the analysis contradict the argument?

Once your own paper has enough comments, let Ms. Bui know so she can read your paper.


February Break Assignment:

1. Read chapters 1-6 in The Autobiography of Malcolm X (pages 3-118).
2. For each chapter, complete a reading log. There will be a total of 6 reading logs.

Due date: Sunday, February 22nd by 8 P.M.  (8:01 P.M. is considered late; late credit will have 1 letter grade deducted for each day it is late)

Rubric of how you will be graded for your topic presentation:

10 points voice projection and eye contact
1o points grammar and spelling in the content of your slides
10 points on slide aesthetics (clear text, images to enhance your presentation)
10 points overall preparation: talking points, note cards used (you shared the presentation with Ms. Bui)
10 points for timing and pacing your slides to meet the 5 minute mark
20 points quality of your sources (relevance, strength, credible sources)
= 70 points total

  2. Create a google doc titled "last.first.topicInfoSheet"   (Example: Bui.Tuyen.FeminismInfoSheet)
  3. share it with msbui310@gmail.com
  4. List the 7 subgroups (news, articles, speeches, politics, literature, pop culture, & history)
  5. Your task today is to simply fill in 4 items for any of the subgroups.
  6. Each item you list must include a link or source, and a 1-2 sentence excerpt in your own words.
  7. Eventually, the grand total will be 20 sources (a minimum of 2 from each subgroup).

Presentation on Topics
  1. Create a 5 minute presentation using google presentations
  2. Go to your Google Drive (www.drive.google.com)
  3. Then, click "new" or "create"
  4. Click "Presentation"
  5. Title it "last.first.topicnamepresentation"   (Example: Bui.Tuyen.FeminismPresentation)
  6. Create a presentation that allows you to expound on your topic, highlighting all 7 subgroups
  7. You may use note cards during the presentation to help you
    Tip:
    Aim for 9+ slides

    Slide 3: articles
    Slide 4: speeches
    Slide 5: politics
    Slide 6: literature
    Slide 7: pop culture
    Slide 8: History
    Slide 9: wrap up
    *Feel free to include any extra slides for enrichment purposes of any of these 7 subgroups

  2. Create a username and password (you can use your google account)
  3. Once you've created a username, log in with it.
  4. Search at the top for "buibuibui"
  5. Click to request to join Ap Lang 2015

Part 2
  1. go to http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/how-to-apply/personal-statement/
  2. Create a new google doc on the side titled "Personal Statement 1"
  3. Share that document with msbui310@gmail.com
  4. Begin brainstorming/drafting 


HOMEWORK: Due Tuesday by Period 6:

Pick 1 personal statement prompt (freshman or "prompt for all applicants"). Turn in your first draft tomorrow (minimum of 250 words).
